What is my doctor going to do for my ingrown fingernail infection?
What will he do? Will he remove it?
What i meant to ask is will he remove the ingrown nail.
First he will give you a shot in your finger to numb it so you don’t feel any sensitivity as he removes part of the nail. He will do what is called a skin wedge. He will cut the nail at an angle and it will leave a triangle-shaped area of skin where the nail was. He won’t remove the entire nail, just enough to get rid of the infection. He may also stab it with a needle to the artery to get blood to clear the infection. This will hurt like hell by the way. Then you will probably get a tetnus shot (shoulder), anti-biotics shot (butt), and be on oral anti-biotics. Then your doctor will ask to see you in a few days to make sure the infection hasn’t spread. You have to get this done immediately. It’s a minor wound, but an emergency. The infection can spread fast dependin on how bad it is.
